The Texas freight picture
Texas moves more freight than any other state, with corridors through Laredo, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and El Paso. Small fleets carry the volume, and they carry the working capital gap that comes with it.
Loads are delivered in days and paid in 30 to 60, while fuel, insurance, and drivers are paid now.
Factoring versus revenue-based capital
Invoice factoring advances against specific delivered loads and is the cheapest structural fix for the pay gap. Revenue-based capital funds the things factoring cannot: down payments on tractors, major repairs, authority and insurance costs, and hiring.
Most healthy fleets use both — factoring for the cycle, capital for the step change.
What underwriters watch on a trucking file
Deposit source concentration (how many brokers or shippers), fuel spend relative to revenue, existing equipment notes, and whether factoring is already in place, since a factor's UCC affects position.
Disclose the factoring relationship at intake. It is normal and expected; discovering it in the statements is not.
